Abramovich scores a visa goal, gets citizenship in Israel

KOLKATA: Refused visa extension by the United Kingdom, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich found a home and citizenship in Israel.

The Russian business magnate had declined to declare the source of his income for a UK visa, but in Israel he will be exempt from taxes and declaring income for 10 years.

Under new rules, Abramovich will have to prove the £2million he has invested in Britain is “clean” before he is granted a new one.

According to a law, Benjamin Netanyahu pushed to benefit billionaire friends of his in return for gifts.

As an Isreali citizen, Abramovich can now visit the UK for up to six months at a time with no visa required as long as he not here to work.

Israeli passport holders can enter Britain without a visa for short stays – although they require visas to work.

The Ynet news site said the 51-year-old, who is Jewish, flew to Tel Aviv on Monday and has received documents confirming his status as a citizen.
