Asia's Kerr, Kumagai miss out on Ballon d'Or Féminin award

NEW DELHI: Australia’s Sam Kerr and Japan’s Saki Kumagai were overlooked as the hopes Asian winner of the first ever Ballon d'Or Féminin ended unfulfilled on Monday.

Norway star and Kumagai's Olympique Lyonnais team-mate Ada Hegerberg won the award with 136 points at a ceremony in Paris, finishing ahead of Denmark’s Pernille Harder (131) and Dzsenifer Marozsan (86) of Germany.

Kerr voted as the world’s fifth best player with 61 points while Nadeshiko captain Kumagai finished 12th in the overall standings with 25 points.

It was the second time in a week that Kerr and Kumagai have been edged out for a major award, with China’s Wang Shuang beating the duo the AFC Women’s Player of the Year Award in Oman last Wednesday. (Source: AFC)
