Australia take on South Korea in international friendly

BRISBANE, Australia: Australia will meet South Korea in an international friendly here on Saturday which will give both the teams an opportunity to gauge their preparations before the AFC Asian Cup in January.

The Aussies had beaten the Koreans in the final of the 2015 edition at home.

The Asian competition will start in the United Arab Emirates on January 5.

“We know the Asian Cup is just around the corner and in my view there are no friendly games. It’s all about winning and building up belief and confidence,” said Australia coach Graham Arnold. “The energy has been great. We've got pace in the team and a lot of creativity."

Australia head into the match without two of their most experienced players Tim Cahill and Mile Jedinak, who have already retired.

Cahill will make a cameo against Lebanon in Sydney next week like Wayne Rooney’s goodbye for England at Wembley on Thursday.

The Socceroos are also missing young gun Daniel Arzani who needs surgery for a knee injury, but now have the services of Scottish winger Martin Boyle who recently secured an Australian passport.

Korea are without Tottenham striker Son Heung-Min and and several other players as head coach Paulo Bento prepares to finalise his squad for the Asian Cup.
