Bagan hope to avenge defeat against Churchill

KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan will hope to avenge their first phase defeat against Churchill Brothers when they meet the Goan side at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco Da Gama on Saturday.

Former champions Bagan will also look for a win to improve their ranking as they are currently sixth after 15 games with 22 points.

“We are looking for positive results. The team has to work hard. We never calculate our position,” said Bagan coach Khalid Jamil.

The home side are currently third with 29 points from 16 games and cannot afford to drop points as debutants Real Kashmir FC are second with 32 points.

“We’ve a chance but it’s a difficult match. We want to grow gradually in the next seasons and improve our performance,” said Churchill Brothers coach Petre Gigiu.

The Goans will miss the services of their midfield lynchpin Khalid Aucho, who has been ruled out due to injury.

Chennai City jump to second position

Chennai City jumped to top spot after they defeated Indian Arrows 2-0 in the 12th I-League at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

Spanish midfielder Sandro opened the scoring in the 71st minute while substitute Vijay N added the second in the added time.

Chennai City (33 points) have now leapfrogged Real Kashmir (32) to the top of the table.
