Bengaluru FC qualify for AFC Cup Inter-Zone semifinals

DHAKA, Bangladesh: Goals from Daniel Segovia (13’), Nishu Kumar (16’, 58’) and Sunil Chhetri (60’) helped Bengaluru FC win 4-0 over Abahani Limited Dhaka here on Wednesday.

The win means that Bengaluru finished as south zone champions and also booked a place in the AFC Cup knock-out stages for a fourth straight season.

But it was the game in Guwahati where Aizawl beat New Radiant 2-1 which also decided Bengaluru’s fate as the former needed a draw to help the Blues go through.

Bengaluru shot into the lead when Chhetri put through Segovia, who beat Abahani goalkeeper Sahidul Alam.

Chhetri then teamed up with Nishu, who slammed the ball low to the corner.

The Indian captain then completed a hat-trick of assists when he chipped over the Abahani defence for Nishu to fantastically control the ball on his chest before firing home from close to make it 3-0.

Chhetri also got into the scoresheet when he capitalised on a misclearance by Alam.
