Brazil's Dani Alves ruled out of World Cup

BRASILIA, Brazil: Paris Saint-Germain right-back Dani Alves has been ruled out of the World Cup after he suffered a knee injury while playing for his club.

The Brazilian sustained the injury in the 80th minute during PSG's Coupe de France victory over Les Herbiers.

The Brazilian football federation (Confederacao Brasileira de Futebol) announced the news on their official website with the following statement, "Brazilian national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar and coordinator Edu Gaspar arrived in Paris for an in-depth follow-up of the medical situation which occurred in the Coupe de France final with PSG right-back, Daniel Alves.

"As it has been since the beginning of the work, the technical committee has created an important relationship with the teams from Brazil and abroad, which allows for technical, physical and clinical follow-ups [...] as well as participation in decision-making."

PSG's medical staff, in conjunction with the Brazil national team, have determined that, given the time constraints ahead of the World Cup, knee surgery is the best option for Alves. (FIFA.com)
