Confident India face Laos in AFC U-16 Women

NEW DELHI: India will take on Laos in the AFC U-16 Women's Championship qualifier in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on Sunday.

The team had lost to the hosts in the previous match and India coach Firmin D’Souza wants his side to win the group’s last match.

“We have to perform much better. We have to be more clinical,” said D’Souza. "I don't think they would (play for a draw). Chances are less that they would play for a draw. They have got some really good attackers and it's likely they will try for a win. We need to have our strategies in place.”

A win will be able to bring them to the top of the group and earn a berth in the next round of the qualification round.

Laos have maintained an all-win record so far and are comfortably placed at the top with nine points from three matches.

India, on the other hand, have six points after three matches.

A draw for Laos will be enough to confirm their qualification.

D‘Souza said that Laos heavily bank on their methodical midfielders and, India have a task cut out to keep them on a check.

“They have got some really talented midfielders who run the show. We know how dangerous they can be inside the opposition half. We have to apt and sharp enough to stop them playing from their natural game,” he added.
