Determined Croatia beat England 2-1 to enter final

MOSCOW: Croatia made history here at the Luzhniki Stadium on Wednesday when they qualified for their maiden World Cup final by beating England 2-1 in the semifinal.

Zlatko Dalic's men will face France in the final at the same venue on July 15.

Kieran Trippier opened the scoring with a free-kick after five minutes, but Ivan Perisic levelled from close range as the match progressed into the extra-time.

England were the better team of the first period of extra-time, however, Mario Mandzukic scored a great goal from inside the box to give Croatia a great win.

Captain Luka Modric was in the best of his form till he was taken off in second half of extra-time. It was another stunning game from the talismanic midfielder as Vatreni played much better in the second half of normal time.

England had dominated the first half while Croatia regained confidence only after the goal by Perisic, who got beyond Kyle Walker to meet Sime Vrsaljko's cross to level things up.

Meanwhile, England captain Harry Kane wasn’t able to find his scoring touch and missed a couple of chances including one header which went wide in stoppage time.
