Dudu shines again as East Bengal stay in title race

SHILLONG, Meghalaya: Nigerian Dudu Omagbemi proved that he still has the firepower to be rated as the best striker in the country after he helped East Bengal to a 2-2 draw against Shillong Lajong in the I-League here on Monday.

Dudu scored on either side of to keep the Calcutta side afloat in the title race, with just one round to go.

He scored in the 20th minute before a second half fightback by the home team saw Aibanbha Kupar Dohling (49th) and Samuel Lalmuanpuia (69th, penalty) score twice to push the visitors on the brink.

But Dudu, who scored four goals in the 7-1 drubbing of Chennai City FC in their last game, equalised in the 88th minute.

The result meant that the red and gold brigade has 30 points, same as third-placed Mohun Bagan.

Second-placed Neroca FC (31 points) take on East Bengal in Calcutta on March 8 while table-toppers Minerva Punjab (32 points) face Churchill Brothers in their last outing on the same day.

On March 8, Mohun Bagan will meet Gokulam Kerala FC away.
