Dudu's fitness worries East Begal thinktank ahead of Super Cup final

BHUBANESWAR, Odisha: East Bengal coach wants his team to stay focussed ahead of their Super Cup final against Bengaluru FC here at the Kalinga Stadium on Friday.

“We need to be positive and go ahead,” said Jamil, who will be eyeing first trophy of the season. “Bengaluru are a good team. We need to be positive all throughout.”

But Dudu Omagbemi’s fitness is a major concern for the red and gold side, who finished fourth in the I-League.

The Nigerian striker suffered a hamstring sprain soon after scoring the match-winner against FC Goa in the semifinal and didn’t attend the training yesterday.

Dudu believes he’ll be fit to take the field against BFC, but the team management is not so sure yet.

In that case, Ansumana Kromah will replace the Nigerian, if the latter fails to make the starting XI. Khalid may also weigh his option of using two strikers by using Jobby Justin. But right now, nothing is clear of the team’s first XI.

“There is always a temptation to try to think differently. But we need to go ahead with normal preparations,” said Khalid. “We need to think about ourselves and stay positive.”

The former Aizawl FC coach also praised Technical Director Subash Bhowmick for his guidance.

“He has been really helpful,” he said.
