KOLKATA: Defending champions East Bengal won their first match at the Calcutta Football League by beating West Bengal Police 2-0 here on Monday evening.

Their first match against Tollygunge Agragami on August 3 was abandoned due to rain.

The home side opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Ralte connected Kassim Aidara assist.

Bhowmick also made a change in the 32nd minute when he introduced Bidyasagar Singh in place of Brandon Vanlalremdika.

East Bengal added their second seven minutes later when Aidara headed Lalram Chullova cross into the net.

The hosts looked sharp in their attacks, but failed to convert in the second session when Bidyasagar missed a sitter.

Mahmoud Al Amna came in the 68th minute and the Syrian international bolstered the midfield while Aidara turned out to be best player due to his impeccable work rate.
