Expect less from Asian teams at World Cup, says Korean legend Park Ji-Sung

MOSCOW, Russia: South Korean football legend Park Ji-Sung still believes that there is a wide gap between Asian teams and the best as Russia World Cup organisers celebrated ‘100 days to go’ for the mega event on Tuesday.

“There’s still a gap between Asian teams and those at a world-class level. We can’t aim for the semifinals or whatever. First of all, we need to get through the group stage. If you look at the draw and the seedings, most Asian teams were in Pot 4. That tells you that we are still a weak continent compared to others,” Park told FIFA.com.

Park was a key player in the Taeguk Warriors side that reached the semifinals in 2002 edition. He scored the goal against Portugal that secured their place in the knockout stage for the first time.

“It will be difficult for us to get through the group phase. We need to focus on that. For all Asian teams, that will be the big target,” he added.
