Focus on youth players, says Wenger

LONDON: Outgoing Arsenal manager dropped not hint at his possible successor, but said the club must focus on young players.

Emotions will be high at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday when Arsenal bid goodbye to Wenger after the Frenchman announced he will stand down from his post as manager at the end of the season.

“Focus on the teenagers who might follow in the footsteps of Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock and make their Premier League debuts in what remains of this season,” he told in an interview on the club’s website.

Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, ex-Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta and Germany’s national team manager Joachim Low, among others, are in the line-up to succeed the Frenchman.

“Emile Smith Rowe is close and Josh Dasilva is close,” he said. “Mavropanos as well, but at the moment he is injured, and Osei-Tutu, the right back. These are the players who are close and need to be developed before we slowly give them a chance.” (Pic credit: Arsenal)
