Former India star Amalraj praises Hyderabad Baby League

KOLKATA: Former India captain Victor Amalraj praised the initiatives of Hyderabad Baby League (HBL) and Deccan Football League (DFL) to popularise football among the kids.

The main aim of these leagues is to provide youth with an opportunity to participate in competitive football completely free of cost.

“It’s a wonderful gesture. I am really happy to see the sport’s development in the city which has produced a host of Olympians and renowned footballers,” Amalraj, who was the chief guest at one of the matches here on Sunday, told www.khelupdates.com from Hyderabad.

The HBL and DFL are community-based initiatives sponsored by Fateh Hyderabad AFC in association with Premier Sport India.

The tournament offer multiple age groups starting from U-6, U-8, U-10 and U-12 which falls in the AIFF Baby League category and extends itself to the U-14, U-16, U-18 and Open categories.

“Hyderabad needs such type of competitions to revive its glory,” added Amalraj, who had represented all three Calcutta clubs during its heydays in the late 1970s and 1980s.

“The grassroots programme intends to involve greater participation from children starting as early as five years of age. There’re a lot of talented players in the state. Tournaments such as this one will definitely help to unearth such promising youngsters,” said Amalraj. "I would like to lend my support towards reviving the talent in the city.’’
