France's teenage hero Mbappe joining Real Madrid?

MOSCOW: Kylian Mbappe’s performance against Argentina in the Round of 16 at the World Cup has stirred the transfer market, which is abuzz with a possible move to Real Madrid from Paris-Saint Germain.

A French journalist reported that Real Madrid and PSG had reached an agreement for the transfer of Mbappe for 272 million euros, but within hours, the Spanish club issued an official statement denying the news.

The 19-year-old took the world by his stride, scoring two goals which took the snuff out of the Argentinians.

“We didn’t make any offers to PSG or the player and regrets the dissemination of this type of information," said a club statement.

The denial is the second of the week by Madrid, who refuted reports linking them with PSG’s Neymar on Monday.

Mbappe has become the talk of the town after he became only the second player after the legendary Pele to score twice in a single match as a teenager.

He’s a precocious youngster. One can expect more magic from his feet, but Mbappe needs to be protected by the coaches. Not just in this tournament when France meet Uruguay, but by the clubs as there’s every possible chance for any brilliant player to fizzle out amid huge expectations.
