Gokulam Kerala hold Mohun Bagan 2-2 in I-League

KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan’s I-league aspiration received another blow as Gokulam Kerala FC held them to a 2-2 draw in I-League here at the Salt Lake Stadium on Wednesday.

The Mariners drew the first blood when Shilton D’Silva headed home in the 18th minute, but an own-goal by Lalcchawnkima in the 21st and an excellent finish by Marcus Joseph in the 24th earned the visitors a crucial lead.

However, it was Dipanda Dicka who rescued Mohun Bagan from an embarrassing defeat when he scored to rescue a point.

Bagan coach Khalid Jamil made three changes to the side that lost to East Bengal last Sunday, with Arijit Bagui, Azharuddin Mallick and Shilton D'Silva got the nod ahead of Abhishek Ambekar, Pintu Mahata, and Darren Caldeira respectively.

Gokulam coach Gift Raikhan made four changes to the starting XI that earned a point against Minerva Punjab in their last match. New recruit Fabien Vorbe got a start along with Mohamed Irshad, Bijesh Balan, and Suhair VP.

The introduction of veteran midfielder Mehtab Hossain boosted some confidence back into the midfield for Bagan, but their lack of cutting edge in the attacking third did not help in their search for the much-needed winner after a defeat in the derby.
