I want to coach Barcelona in future, says Xavi

Doha: Al Sadd captain Xavi Hernandez heaped praise on Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola and reiterated his ambition to take over as Barcelona coach in future.

“Pep didn’t know the league last season, but this time he’s mastering the details. City play amazing football and are certainly one of the best teams in Europe. As a football fan, I enjoy watching them,” Xavi said in an interview to www.sc.qa. “Pep has very clear ideas. “He’s strict and meticulous. He’s also football crazy and thinks about the sport 24 hours a day. Working with Pep was special for me.”

On the Round of 16 clash between Chelsea and Barcelona at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, the 2010 World Cup-winner said he’s expecting a close game.

“City play the same way as Barcelona. They like to keep possession and press high up the pitch, but don’t lose the ball very often,” added the 38-year-old, who joined Sadd in 2015-16 season.

Though he remains committed to captaining his club in Qatar, the Spaniard has one eye on his coaching career, including a return to Spain.

“I want to coach Barcelona, but first I need to gain experience. I would certainly like to be a coach at Barca in the future," said Xavi, who is also a Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy ambassador.
