India U19 to play friendlies against Serbia

NEW DELHI: India’s U19 football team will be travelling to Serbia to play two international friendlies against Serbia U19 side on September 13 and September 17 respectively.

The matches are part of the exposure tour for the I-League season and U-19 AFC Championship qualification next year.

The team recently played a four-nation tournament in Croatia against U-19 teams from France, Croatia, and Slovenia.

“In a 50-day period, we will be competing six matches under our belt against regular World Cuppers from South America and Europe,” National Team Director Abhishek Yadav said on the federation website.  “The matches have been part of competitions so there has been that added edge. I hope these programmes will have a positive impact on the boys.”

The team had earlier participated in the COTIF Cup in Spain before flying to Croatia for the four-nation tournament.

“France are the strongest team in the group,” said coach Floyd Pinto. “They were one of the best teams in the FIFA U-17 World Cup. We are really excited to face them." (Pic credit: AIFF)
