India face Jordan in Qatar Asian Communities event

DOHA, Qatar: Jordan and India will fight for honours in the final of the Seventh Asian Communities Football Tournament (ACFT) at the Al Arabi Stadium on Friday.

Indonesia will face Lebanon in the playoff for the third-fourth place. In the semifinals, India defeated defending champions Lebanon 3-0 in the penalty shootout while Jordan overcame Indonesia 2-0.

Jordan qualified for the last four after Japan withdrew from the competition, which featured 10 Asian teams divided into two groups.

This year’s tournament witnessed a large spectator turnout due to its growing competitive nature in the last couple of editions, and the final match is expected to attract a sizeable crowd from both the communities.

The first edition was held in 2012-2013 which had six teams. Following its huge interest among the communities, number of teams were increased in later years.

The ACFT is being organised by Qatar Football Association (QFA) to instil a culture of football among the different communities in Qatar. The QFA has previously organised and provided support to many community football tournaments including the Indian community, Indian schools and others.

Organised by the QFA’s Sub-Leagues Committee, this year’s edition is sponsored by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), Nike, The Look Company and Al Kass Sports Channels.
