India ready to face challenges in AFC event: Bibiano

NEW DELHI: Currently in their last exposure tour prior to the AFC U-16 Championship Malaysia 2018,

India U-16 football coach Bibiano Fernandes exuded confidence despite the team’s 2-1 defeat against Oman in the tri-nation Istanbul Cup in Turkey.

The Goan said that the team is ready to compete at the AFC U16 Championship next month in Malaysia.

“We are working hard day in and day out on the ground and we are striving to attain the success. This exposure trip is the last opportunity to test ourselves before the AFC Championship and we won't let this opportunity go,” Fernandes said in an interview on the federation website.

From January, the team has so far played 19 international matches against U-16 teams of USA, Norway, Japan, Serbia, Iraq, DPR Korea, China (U-17), Thailand and Jordan.

“We have been in a constant process of learning and improving simultaneously. We are ready to face the challenge in Malaysia,” he added.

Fernandes also added that such experience of playing against quality sides will help them.

“The matches have helped us learn and assess ourselves before the next one (match) arrives our way. We have improved significantly since the time we played the qualifiers in Nepal and we have proved it several times,” he said.
