Indian girls fail to advance to next round of AFC U16 qualifiers

NEW DELHI: India U-16 girls were held to a 1-1 draw by Laos in their final fixture of the first round of the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, here on Sunday.

Laos, with 10 points from four matches, qualified to the second round of the qualification while India (seven from four games) failed to progress to the next stage.

Aveka Singh (18') opened the scoring for India from a well-taken corner by Lynda Kom, but Pe (82’) struck late to steal an all-important point from the tie.

Coach Firmin D'Souza made two changes with Pinku Devi and Kritina Devi replacing Anju and Kiran respectively.
