Journey to Qatar 2022 has begun, says FIFA Secretary Samoura

MOSCOW: Qatar 2022 countdown will begin after the Russia 2018 ends here tonight with the final between France and Croatia.

FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura, who attended the Qatar 2022 promotional events in Gorky Park, got a taste of what’s to come in four years’ time.

“The journey to Qatar 2022 has begun. The presentation has been exemplary for a host nation that wishes to promote its own tournament,” said Samoura, who received a tour of the activation from Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) Secretary General Hassan Al Thawadi.

The activations, which run till the final, included a three-tiered pop-up space, Majlis Qatar, which gave visitors a taste of the atmosphere they can expect in 2022.

“Majlis Qatar is a pavilion packed full of surprises and gives visitors an idea of the kind of welcome they can expect when Qatar hosts the first World Cup in the Arab world in a little over four years’ time,” said Al Thawadi.

The week-long programme has attracted more than 30,000 fans.

“Along with the other Moscow activations, including Qatar Elements and the Qatar @roadto2022 Exhibition, thousands of football fans are already thinking about their next World Cup journey,” said Samoura.
