Kerala beat Bengal to top group in Santosh Trophy

KOLKATA, India: Kerala beat defending champions Bengal 1-0 to top Group A in the ongoing 72nd Santosh Trophy at the Mohun Bagan ground on Tuesday.

Rahul KP scored the all-important goal in the 90th minute.

Bengal, who had already booked their semis berth, dominated the proceedings initially and enjoyed better possession. Attacking midfielder Sandip Bhattacharjee had a clear look at the goal in the sixth minute when his half-volley went just above the crossbar.

In another match, Maharashtra came from behind twice to thrash Manipur 7-2 in their final group phase match at the Sailen Manna Stadium in Howrah.

Ranjeet Singh scored a hat-trick (59, 77 and 90') while Sahil Bhokare (28), Nikhil Prabhu (75), Kiran Pandhare (86) and Naqiur Ansari (93) were the other scorers while Chanso Horam (17) and Dhananjoy Singh (40) netted for Manipur.

The match was a dead-rubber as both sides have alreay been eliminated from the tournament.
