Man City humiliate Chelsea 6-0 to regain top spot

LONDON: Maurizio Sarri would now be counting his days at Chelsea after they were thrashed and humiliated 6-0 by Manchester City here on Sunday.

Such was City’s intensity that they led 4-0 inside the first 25 minutes with Sergio Aguero grabbed a hat-trick as Pep Guardiola’s side leapfrogged Liverpool again to top spot in the Premier League on goal difference.

"Happy about the win, the hat-trick and for matching an all-times record. It's my honour and my pleasure to belong to this FC, with great companions, amazing fans, and being part of this wonderful team. C'mon, City," tweeted Aguero.

City boss Guardiola, though, urged the Chelsea hierarchy not to be trigger happy with Sarri.

"My first year was difficult too. It needs time and only depends of the believers and owners. The main reason I came to City was Txiki and the chairman understood me. That’s why I’m enjoying it here in Manchester," said Guardiola.

Chelsea on the other hand slip to sixth with Sarri's future in doubt.

“I don't know. You have to ask the club,” said the Italian, who had joined the club eight months back. “I am worried about my team, worried about the performance but my job is always at risk.”

A 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth in their last away game was Chelsea’s heaviest league defeat since 1996.

But this was Blues’ worst defeat in any competition since 1991 after failing to recover from Raheem Sterling’s fourth-minute opener.

“Something has changed since the beginning of the season, and at the moment I’m unable to see the reason why,” said Sarri. (Pic credit: Man City/Twitter)
