Manvir shines in India

NEW DELHI: India overcame Pakistan 3-1 to advance into the SAFF Cup final at the Bangabandhu Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Wednesday.

Manvir Singh scored a double (49' & 69') while substitute Sumeet Passi headed home the third in the 83rd minute as the defending champions set up a title clash with Maldives on Saturday. Hassan Bashir reduced the margin in the 88th.

The first goal came off a brilliant counter-attack when Ashique Kuruniyan unleashed a low cross which was slotted home by Singh.

Lalliazuala Chhangte, who replaced Nikhil Poojary in the 68th, sidestepped two defenders and relayed it to Vinit Rai, who then put Singh through.

However, India received a blow as Chhangte was given marching orders for an off the ball offence on Mohsin Ali, who also had to leave the field for his challenge.
