Mohammedan Sporting begin preparations for 2nd Division I-League

Calcutta: Mohammedan Sporting Club began their prepartaions for the 2nd Division League here on Monday.

The first training session of the New Year began with an introductory process between the players, coaching staff and club officials followed by physical drills under coach Biswajit Bhattacharya.

“We are happy to be back on the field,” said Bhattacharya, who hoped to get all players in shape before the tournament begins in March. “It’s going to be a tough competititon. I need to prepare the players so they can play their best." 

“It won’t be easy because we have only just assembled a squad. But we have got a really good bunch of players that I am confident will transform into a strong unit.” he concluded.

Sporting have opted for a relatively young side, and are looking at their young guns to deliver.

Meanwhile, the club have been able to retain the core of the Indian contingent in the likes of Jiten Murmu, Tirthankar Sarkar, Prahlad Roy, Ankit Mukherjee, Kamran Farooque, Debasish Pradhan and Satyam Sarma.

The club has also secured the services of Trinidadian international Wills Plaza, who will join the team later this month.

The club has currently signed a total 21 players and are confident of completing the remaining signings over the course of the next couple of weeks.
