Mohammedan Sporting hope to seal semfinal berth

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sorting will meet defending champions Border Security Force, Jalandhar, in their last Group A game in 70th Independence Day Cup here at the Nurul Amin Stadium in Nagaon, Assam, on Wednesday.

The Kolkata side will need a win to secure them a spot in the semifinals.

“We are expecting a difficult match against BSF,” said Mohammedan coach Raghunath Nandi. “They are a strong side, but we’re well prepared.”

Mohammedan won 1-0 against K.A. Morning Star Club in their previous match, but they lacked the punch as their forwards wasted several opportunities.

“It would be a mistake to underestimate BSF. We respect our opponents. It’s an important game and we can’t be complacent,” added Nandi.

Nandi admitted Morning Star Club were impressive, but his team didn’t really play to their potential.

“We’ll try to play well,” he said.
