Mohammedan Sporting in search of lost glory

CALCUTTA, India: Mohammedan Sporting Club has long lost its stronghold in Indian football as they are now a mere shadow of their iconic past.

When they kick-off campaign in the 2nd Division League Preliminary Round Group C campaign against Jamshedpur FC at the Barasat Stadium here on Wednesday, Sporting will have to put in that extra effort to qualify for the top-tier.

“The first match is always difficult. It’s always important to start with a victory. It will set the tone for the entire campaign,” said Sporting coach Biswajit Bhattacharya.

The hosts will miss Dipanda Dicka, top--scorer in the Calcutta Football League last season, and striker Manvir Singh.

The kick-off is at 3.15PM.
