Mohammedan beat Bengaluru FC B in 2nd Division I-League

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting defeated Bengaluru FC ‘B’ 1-0 in the 2nd Division League at Barasat here on Sunday.

Dipendu Dowary (70') scored the all-important goal in a rain-affected match.

The Blues finished their campaign with 17 points in second place, six behind leaders TRAU FC (23 points) who beat Langsning FC 3-1 earlier in the day to seal top spot.

Coach Naushad Moosa made three changes, handing starts to Asheer Akhtar who returned from suspension along with Shahabaaz Khan and Lamgoulen Hangshing.

The start was delayed by an hour due to incessant rains and water-logged pitch, but the visitors came out all guns blazing with playmaker Altamash Sayed hit the near post in the eighth minute.

Nishu Kumar and Asheer both went agonisingly close to opening the scoring around the half hour mark.

However, it was Dowary scored after midfielder Tirthankar Sarkar who sent him through.
