Mohammedan face stiff challenge against East Bengal

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting coach Sudip Sarkar will have his task cut out when his side face East Bengal in the Calcutta Premier Division ‘A’ clash on Tuesday.

“Playing against the biggest sides in the competition is always exciting because that’s where players really get the opportunity to test themselves individually and as a collective,” Sarkar said on the club’s website.

The former national goalkeeper acknowledged East Bengal’s stature as one of the strongest sides in the competition.

“They are a big team. We respect them. But we have to do what we do best. We know they are not an easy team to beat, but we will do our best,” he added.

East Bengal have dominated the black and white since 2015-16 season and the last time Mohammedan won a derby was in 2014-15 season.

East Bengal are unbeaten in their last three matches against their opponents, who will be looking to break that record.

“We have done our match analysis. All we have to do is stick to the plan and execute well,” said Sarkar.
