KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club honoured legend former India and club captain Victor Amalraj with Shan-e-Mohammedan award here on Saturday.

“I am extremely honored to receive this prestigious award. As a player, you never really think of awards. As long as we won matches that was the most than enough for me,” said Amalraj, who had debuted at the iconic club in late 1970s.

The award is given to former players as a mark of respect for their contribution to the club.

“It’s not just my sole effort that has brought me here. It wouldn’t have been possible without the support from my team-mates. I sincerely thank everyone for helping me reach a stage where I can proudly hold up this award,” said Amalraj after receiving the award and a sum of Rs.1 lakh at the Iftar Party at the club premises.

Amalraj, who captained Mohammedan in 1980, has spent six seasons and won Federation Cup, Bordoloi Trophy, Rovers Cup, DCM Trophy, Sikkim Governors' Gold Cup and Sait Nagjee Trophy.
