Mohammedan overcome Assam Police 1-0 in Bordoloi Trophy

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting began their Bordoloi Trophy campaign in Group B with a 1-0 win over Assam Police Blues in Guwahati, Assam, on Sunday.

Ghanaian international Philip Adjah scored in the 18th minute at Nalbari's Mukalmua Stadium.

Laltu Hembram had the first shot of the game in the sixth minute, but it sailed over the bar, and that was followed by Assam Police’s first threatening attack which saw Lachit Boro try to play a through ball to the on-running Sanjay Das, but he arrived late.

After the goal, Mohammedan upped the ante and attacked in hordes, but were unable to increase the lead.

Assam Police came close to equalising in the 54th minute, however, Sporting goalkeeper Laltu Mondal made a fine save.

The hosts threw numbers forward in the final ten minutes, but were unable to find the equaliser as the Kolkata side held on to their slender lead.

Mohammedan will take on Barhoongkha FC on October 31.
