Mohun Bagan beat Customs to regain Calcutta Leauge title

KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan defeated Calcutta Customs 2-0 here on Wednesday to regain the Calcutta Football League (CFL) after nine years.

Double strike by Henry Kisekka (4’, 45’) helped the Mariners lift their 30th title.

Bagan looked in complete control right from the start and were determined to wrap up the title in front of a full-capacity home crowd.

Kisekka scored his fifth goal of the campaign after beautifully chest-trapping Bagui’s long ball from the right.

Dipanda made up for his wastefulness in the match after put through Kisekka just outside the six-yard box. The Ugandan striker controlled it with a deft first touch and slotted it home.

The significance of the league may have gone after the I-League and ISL were launched, but CFL has a special place.

Bagan, who will meet Mohammedan Sporting in an inconsequential fixture on September 18, are six points ahead of East Bengal with a match to spare.
