Mohun Bagan look to bounce back against Gokulam

KOLKATA: After a lacklustre performance at the Kolkata Derby, that saw them going down against arch-rivals East Bengal, a depleted Mohun Bagan side will look to bounce back when they take on Gokulam Kerala FC in their I-league encounter at the Salt Lake stadium on Wednesday.

The Mariners under their coach Khalid Jamil sit at sixth with 21 points from 14 matches while Gokulam are languishing in 9th position, having garnered just 11 points from their 13 matches.

Although Mohun Bagan went went down to East Bengal, the Sony Norde-led side have picked up 6 points from their last two matches and will be eager to give Gokulam a run for their money.

Gokulam, on the other hand, have picked up only two points from their last six games, and despite bringing in Gift Raikhan as their technical manager and a couple of foreign strikers in Trinidadian Marcus Joseph and Ghanaian Charles Foley, the side from Kerala have been not been able to get back to winning ways.

Indicating that his side will go for full three points, Mohun Bagan coach Khalid Jamil at the pre-match press conference said, “We did not play well in the last match but we are determined to give our best. The footballers are mature enough and they are ready to play the match with renewed confidence. Our aim is to get three points on Wednesday.”

The only silver lining for Gokulam, however, has been striker Marcus Joseph, the top scorer of the Trinidad pro-league, came in two score twice for his new club in two games.

“Tomorrow’s match is extremely important for us. Football Is not only about winning or losing, but it is about good performance. Mohun Bagan is definitely a very good side but we are not thinking about anything but winning,” Gokulam Technical Director Gift Raikhan said at the pre-match press conference.
