Newcastle bounce back to beat Arsenal 2-1

LONDON, England: Newcastle United guaranteed their Premier League safety as they came from a goal down to beat Arsenal 2-1 here on Sunday.

Alexandre Lacazette gave Arsenal the lead in the 14th minute, but Ayoze Perez equalised on the half hour mark.

"The first thing I want to do is congratulate everyone here at the club... every fan, every player and every member of staff. This is a massive achievement,” said Newcastle coach Rafael Benitez.

Newcastle were the better side after the break and took the lead in the 68th minute when Matt Ritchie fired home with a Perez assist.

Arsenal pressed hard for an equaliser, but Newcastle defended stoutly for their fourth successive victory.

Newcastle have 41 points in 10th place with sixth-placed Arsenal on 54.

"What a magnificent job Rafa has done this season. Had the players organised and committed," said club's former star Alan Shearer.
