Palestine keeper hails team's fighting spirit

Palestine keeper hails team

SHARJAH, UAE: Palestine goalkeeper Rami Hamada was happy with his team’s goalless draw against Syria at the AFC Asian Cup here.

The Palestinians stopped Syria and picked up a valuable point to kick-off their continental campaign.

Hamada effected some excellent saves while the back-line brimmed with confidence to deny Syria a win despite the 68th minute dismissal of defender Mohammed Saleh.

“It was an important point because it was Palestine’s first ever Asian Cup point,” said the 24-year-old.

Palestine are making their second consecutive appearance in the competition, having lost all three group matches in their maiden campaign in Australia four years ago.

“It was a difficult match for us. I would like to thank my team-mates for their efforts. Even when Saleh was sent off, every one of us fought for two,” said Hamada.

Palestine face reigning champions Australia in their second Group B match at Rashid Stadium in Dubai on Friday.

“We always show strong character on the pitch. The players were alert for the entire 90 minutes. We looked after one another and were determined to achieve our objective,” he added. (Source: the-afc.com)
