Perfect finish to a perfect afternoon for Wolverhampton

LONDON: Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Midlands rivals Birmingham City 2-0 on Sunday to earn a promotion to the Premier League.

Diogo Jota's first-half goal and substitute Benik Afobe's effort after the interval secured the points for Wolves while Birmingham saw their captain Harlee Dean red-carded seven minutes after halftime for a foul on Helder Costa.

Wolves thus ended their six-year exile from the Premier League on Saturday when Fulham could only draw with Brentford.

Wolves almost confirmed their six-year exile from the top tier on Saturday when Fulham could only draw with Brentford.

They will be assured of the title if they avoid defeat against lowly Bolton Wanderers next Saturday.

It was the perfect afternoon for the men in gold and black, with the celebrations at full-time fully deserved after what has been a memorable season so far.
