Qatar Emir re-elected as IOC member

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina: Qatar Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was re-elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during the IOC session here on the sidelines of the Youth Olympic Games.

Sheikh Tamim also participated in the meetings of the 33rd session, which dealt with a number of topics on the agenda related to the development of sports work and the Olympic movement at the global level.

He also met with IOC President Dr Thomas Bach along with the Qatar Olympic Committee President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani at the meeting which dealt with the co-operation relations between Qatar and the IOC.

Dr Bach praised the friendly relations between the two sides, and the great initiatives undertaken by Qatar in promoting the Olympic movement worldwide including the support of the QOC to the Olympic Refuge Foundation, which was established in September last year in co-operation with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

The Emir also stressed Qatar's initiative in supporting refugees around the world by providing safe exercise facilities for those forced to leave their homes due to crises, wars, famine and other natural disasters.
