Qatar League champions Al Duhail settle for 2-2 draw against Al Rayyan

Doha: A late own goal by defender Mohammed Mousa saw Al Duhail settle for a 2-2 against Al Rayyan at the QNB Stars League here on Sunday.

Both the teams had also shared points in their goalless draw in the first leg.

The defending champions were almost sure of full three points after they led 2-1, but Mousa’s faulty clearance off a pass from Rayyan’s Lucca Borges landed into his own net in the 83rd minute after star Moroccan striker Yousef El Arabi helped them regain the lead.

“It was one of the best matches for both the teams. I’m not unhappy about the loss of chances, but hugely upset the way we lost possession in the middle,” Duhail coach Nabil Maaloul said after the match.

El Arabi scored both the goals (20th and 52nd minutes) while Brazilian forward Lucca equalised in the 41st.

However, Duhail, who remained the only unbeaten team in the tournament, regained the lead when El Arabi met with a Paolo Edmilson cross.

Duhail, who were without injured South Korean midfielder Nam Tae-Hee, moved to 35 points while Rayyan have 24 at the end of the 14th round.

“We missed a number of opportunities in the first and second half. Rayyan scored due to our lapses. But I’m happy with the performance,” Nabil added. “The outcome of this match won’t determine the league winners. There’re a lot of matches to be played including the one against Al Sadd next week.”
