Qatar’s Almoez eyeing goal-scoring history

ABU DHABI, UAE: Qatar’s goal-scoring machine Almoez Ali is on the verge of making history.

With the FIFA 2022 World Cup host nation all set to take on Iraq in the Round of 16 tomorrow, Almoez will be eyeing to score again. He has so far netted seven in the competition, and should he find the net the Al Duhail striker will equal Iran’s Ali Daei, who had scored eight at the 1996 edition here.

Almoez, who claimed the top-scorer award at the AFC U23 Championship in 2018, has been in sensational form throughout, also scored a four-goal haul against DPR Korea as Qatar claimed top spot in Group E en route to the knockout phase.

The youngster is already level with Iran’s Behtash Fariba and Korea Republic ace Choi Soon-Ho, who bagged seven goals apiece in 1980.
