DOHA, Qatar: Morocco’s Raja Casablanca overcame Tunisia's Esperance 2-1 to win the African Super Cup here on Friday.

Abdelilah Hafidi opened the scoring for Raja, but Esperance’s Mohamed Youcef canceled it out in the 57th minute to give the Tunisian team brief hope.

However, Raja captain Badr Benoun sealed the winner in the 65th minute as the Moroccon side celebrated their first Super Cup trophy in 19 years.

“I am very happy, I am very proud to bring this title to Casablanca,” said Raja’s French coach Patrice Carteron.

The Super Cup is an annual one-off match pitting the winner of the CAF Champions League and second-tier CAF Confederation Cup against each other.

The match, which attracted a near capacity crowd of 18,378, was held first time outside Africa in 2022 World Cup destination.
