Rampant India look to carry momentum into T20s

WELLINGTON: Following their biggest One-day series win, 4-1, in New Zealand, a Virat Kohli-less team India would look to take their winning momentum into the three-match T20 series.

The team led by Rohit Sharma in absence of Kohli didn’t lose a series in Australia and would hope to keep that run going against the Kiwis too.

The Men in Blue would also be eager to clinch their first-ever T20 series win in New Zealand as well.

“We too are humans and our bodies need a bit of rest. Of course, we would be looking to win the series and carry the momentum back home for the Australia series,” opener Shikhar Dhawan said on the eve of the game.

All eyes will be on wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant as well and the 21-year-old would be eager to make a difference after calls for his inclusion in the World Cup squad.

However, former skipper and veteran Mahendra Singh Dhoni is back the shortest format as well after a spectacular show in the ODI series.

Hosts New Zealand, on the other hand, will be desperate to turn things around after a 1-4 drubbing. They do hold an upper hand over India in the shortest format. They had defeated India 2-0 in the 2008-09 in the sole bilateral series played on New Zealand soil till date.
