LONDON: Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 20th goal as Juventus got back to winning ways and took an 11-point lead in Serie A with an impressive 3-0 win over Sassuolo on Sunday.

The hosts played well for the opening 15 minutes before the Bianconeri came into the contest, imposing their class and character.

“Sassuolo’s game is heavily based on their deep-lying midfielder circulating the ball,” said Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri on the club’s website. “They’re one of the teams with the most possession in their own half in the league.”

Ronaldo proved decisive, scoring after 70 minutes as Sami Khedira found the net first in Modena with fellow German Emre Can slotting in the third four minutes from time.

“We had a risk early on that (Wojciech) Szczesny dealt with, but after a quarter of an hour we started to play. They were struggling to cope with (Federico) Bernardeschi in the hole. He was playing well and they couldn’t read his passes. We didn’t concede and we created lots of chances,” added Allegri.

The seven-time Serie A champions had been held by promoted Parma last week despite Ronaldo’s double.

“Dybala played well. So did Emre Can and Rodrigo Bentancur,” said Allegri.

“To play like this, everyone needs to contribute, but we should also compliment the team for how they dealt with the game.” (Pic credit: Juventus/Twitter)
