South Korea beat China to notch up third win

ABU DHABI, UAE: South Korea collected full points after they beat China 2-0 as their talismanic player Son Heung-Min made his first AFC Asian Cup appearance here on Wednesday.

Goals from Hwang Ui-Jo and Kim Min-Jae saw the Taeguk Warriors set up a Round of 16 meeting against one of the best third-placed finishers from either Group A, B or F in Dubai next Tuesday.

The Koreans, who had already advanced into the next stage, finished as Group C toppers with nine points from three matches.

Marcello Lippi’s Chinese side finished second in the group and will now face Thailand in Al Ain on Sunday.

Iran hold Iraq 0-0

In another match played in Dubai, Iran sealed top spot in Group D after playing a 0-0 draw with Iraq.

Maiden win for Kyrgyz Republic

Hat-trick from Vitalij Lux gave Kyrgyz Republic their first ever Asian Cup win, and a chance of appearing in the tournament's knockout stage as the Central Asians defeated the Philippines 3-1.

Vietnam stay in race

In Al Ain, Vietnam kept their hopes of progressing to the next stage with a 2-0 win over Yemen.

Vietnam finished third in Group D and surpassed the two points collected by Palestine in Group B in the quest for one of the four spots awarded to the best third-placed teams. (Pic credit: AFC)
