Syria to participate in four-nation Intercontinental Cup in India

KOLKATA, India: Syria, DPR Korea and Tajikistan will take part in the Second Intercontinental Cup from July 7-17, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) said on Monday.

With defending champions in the fray, the four teams will play in a round-robin phase with top two teams qualifying for the final in the competition that will be held in Bangalore.

The hosts had defeated Kenya in the final of the inaugural edition last year in Mumbai. New Zealand and Chinese Taipei were the other two teams.

“The AIFF and their partners FSDL have finalised an annual calendar for the national team. In June, India will participate in King's Cup in Thailand. These matches will hold us in good stead for the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers in September 2019,” AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das said on the federation website.

“I thank the Football Federations of Syria, Tajikistan and DPR Korea for agreeing to come over for the four-nation event,” he added.
