Top Mohun Bagan officials resign

CALCUTTA, India: Two top Mohun Bagan officials tendered their resignations on Monday evening citing ‘interference into club matters’ by club secretary Anjan Mitra.

Assistant secretary Srinjoy Bose and finance secretary Debasish Dutta held a Press conference at the Calcutta Sports Journalist Club where they had leveled charges against Mitra.

“We’re not only Bagan officials, but fans too. We’ve worked hard since last four years for the club’s interest. But right now it is becoming increasingly difficult to carry on with our responsibilities,” Dutta told the mediamen.

Bagan had finished third in the I-League, which ended last week.

“I feel bad that they’re maligning me. As a Bagan official, I’ve brought them to the club. I would want to meet them personally tomorrow and then will take a call,” said an ailing Mitra over phone.

Both the officials had claimed that they have managed to ‘hold the team’ amid the chaos that was created after Sanjoy Sen resigned as Bagan coach early this year following team’s 1-2 defeat against Chennai City FC in I-League.

Both Dutta and Bose also said that it was due to their efforts that Bagan fared better in the I-League under caretaker coach Shankarlal Chakraborty, who was Sen’s assistant.

“We’ve done in with our responsibilities and helped the team to prepare for the Super Cup. But we also want others to work and that won’t be possible if we are around. That’s why we are moving out,” said Bose.
