Tributes pour in for injured Shikhar Dhawan

LONDON: Injured India opener Shikhar Dhawan has thanked his team-mates and fans for the support after he was ruled out of the World Cup.

The opener then took to social media to express his thanks for the wishes of India’s fans.

“I just wanted to make a video to show gratitude towards your prayers and love which you all have been showering at me,” said the Delhi batsman. “Unfortunately my thumb won’t be recovering on time. I really wanted to play the World Cup and represent my country."

The tributes soon started pouring in from team-mates, former India stars and pundits alike.

"Really unfortunate for a player of such caliber to be ruled out of the World Cup owing to an injury. Big loss for the team," said Suresh Raina.

Even Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, who is here on a promotional campaign, tweeted, "A beacon of positive energy! A true exemplar of the champion mindset and gentlemanly conduct! Always invigorating to meet him!"
