Uchida praises home fans after come-back win over Suwon

KASHIMA, Japan: Atsuto Uchida praised Kashima Antlers’ home fans in helping them in their stunning 3-2 comeback win against Suwon Samsung Bluewings in their first leg AFC Champions League semifinal on Wednesday.

To go two goals down after just six minutes of play was not the way Kashima Antlers had planned to begin their first-ever continental semifinal.

“We were able to get the victory by working together as a team,” said Uchida, who netted the winning goal in added time. “Yes, it was my goal that won the game, but it's the result that matters - that I was able to score the winner is just a bonus. We felt the support and cheers from everyone in the stadium and it helped give us the final push to get the victory tonight.”

The J.League club roared back to record an impressive come-from-behind victory at Kashima Soccer Stadium.

“We conceded two goals early on, but thanks to good luck and some mistakes by Suwon we were able to turn it around,” added the former Schalke 04 full-back.

“It’s a bit disappointing that we played like this at the semifinal stage. For sure, if we play like this in the second leg we won't be successful in reaching the final,” he added. (Courtesy: AFC, Pic: FIFA twitter)
