We are sad, not devastated, says Kohli

LONDON: 240 was always going to be a tough score to chase for India, but captain Virat Kohli insisted there was no regret as his side gave off the best.

“We are sad, but we are not devastated because of the kind of cricket that we played in this tournament. We know where we stood as a team and today we were not good enough and that is the nature of this tournament. A bad day in the knockout stage you are out,” said Kohli.

Kohli was disappointed at the result as India failed at the semifinal for the second successive World Cups.

“We’re not shying away from accepting that we didn't stand up to the challenge. We weren’t good enough under pressure. We’ve to accept that and accept the failure as it shows on the scoreboard,” he added.

Rohit Sharma, who scored five centuries in the competition, came a cropper. So was his opening partner KL Rahul as fast bowler Matt Henry was in devastating form.

“We’ve qualified for the semis and have played good cricket. We should be proud of the way we have played and look at the positives including Rohit's performance and Bumrah’s bowling.

“Then just 40-45 minutes of bad cricket puts you out. As a sportsman you have to accept it, this is part and parcel of this game,” Kohli added.
