We want to seal league title on Saturday, says Al Sadd

DOHA, Qatar: Qatar international Abdelkarim Hassan, who plies his trade at Al Sadd, said that his club will like to seal the Qatar Stars League title with a win over defending champions Al Duhail on Saturday.

Sadd, coached by Portuguese Jesualdo Fereira, are currently leading the table with 50 points, four more than Duhail.

“Victory over Duhail and the subsequent crowning would just be the icing on the cake,” said the 25-year-old. “All of us are staying highly focused. Three points and it’ll be all over. We’ll be the champions again.”

Sadd are currently the league leaders. What’s your take on this?

All of us are happy. We’ve had a special season this time. We faced a lot of troubles last season, mainly with injuries to players. We lost silly points. But, we played well this season.

How do you compare Sadd and Duhail?

To be honest, there isn’t much difference. Both teams have big names and match-winners. Duhail are also scoring goals. Our games have always been close. Statistics substantiate that.

Can Sadd beat Duhail again like in the first leg?

We’ve three matches remaining to achieve our goal. We may win or lose against Duhail. But we want to seal the issue with this match and focus on other tasks such as Emir Cup and AFC Champions League.

Your reaction on the achievements that you had in recent years.

I’m satisfied and proud as a player, both individually and as a team member. Winning the AFC Best Player Award wasn’t just my achievement. It wouldn’t have happened had it not been for the support of my team-mates, with club and country. (Source: QSL)
